The latest TV show from Chef Gordon Ramsay - known for his strong language - attracted an audience of seven million viewers on ITV1 on Sunday. The first episode of Hell's Kitchen saw Ramsay introduce the 10 celebrities he hopes to mould into cooks.
Among those taking part are former MP Edwina Currie, singer Belinda Carlisle and athlete Dwain Chambers.
The show beat BBC One's The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, which had an audience of 5.3 million in the 2100 BST slot.
On BBC Two at the same time was the documentary Football Diaries, which attracted 1.4 million viewers.
In the battle of the films, Channel 5's showing of Armageddon saw 2.8 million tune in, while 1.8 million watched Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me on Channel 4.
Earlier in the evening, ITV1 scored the biggest ratings of the night with Coronation Street as the character of Todd finally revealed to his pregnant girlfriend that he is gay.
On Monday, there will be three episodes of the soap as the explosive storyline continues to unfold.
