Writers' DVD deal talks continue
Hollywood sign
The writers' old deal expired on Saturday
Hollywood's screenwriters will keep on negotiating a new agreement with film studios and TV networks - even though their current deal has now expired.

The Writers Guild of America wants its 10,300 members to take a greater share of profits from DVD sales.

But the studios say DVDs are helping them offset the increasing cost of making feature films.

The old contract expired on Saturday, but both sides are refusing to comment on the state of the negotiations.

The studios are represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, while the ABC, CBS and NBC networks are also taking part in the talks.

Other issues on the table include the studios' contribution to health care funds and how to deal with areas like the reality TV genre.

The new deal will last for three years.
