Actor Robert Downey Jr has officially ended his 12-year marriage to actress and model Deborah Falconer. The couple, who have been separated for eight years, filed divorce papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
"This is more or less just a formality," said Downey Jr's spokesman Alan Nierob.
Chaplin star Downey Jr, 39, married Falconer after a 42-day relationship. Their 10-year-old son, Indio, will continue to live with his mother.
Downey Jr is now engaged to film producer Susan Levin.
They met during the filming of Gothika, the 2003 movie produced by Levin in which he co-starred with Halle Berry.
The actor spent a year in jail after being arrested on cocaine charges in 1999. On his release he was caught with drugs twice more and underwent rehabilitation.
