Movie director Oliver Stone has been arrested in Beverly Hills on suspicion of possessing cannabis and driving under the influence.

The 52-year-old was arrested late on Wednesday and released from custody the following morning on $12,500 bail.

The Oscar-winning director of Platoon, Wall Street and JFK has so far made no comment.

Brad puts his silverware on show

Hollywood star Brad Pitt is to put his private silverware collection on show in Japan from this weekend.

He has contributed 16 pieces of silverware to an exhibition at Tokyo's Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, which pays tribute to the century-old London department store Liberty.

The star of Seven Years in Tibet and A River Runs Through It is a collector of work by designer Archibald Knox.

The Liberty Style exhibition, made up of pieces produced for Liberty, will be open to the public until 25 July. It will then run at another five venues in Japan until May next year.

Miramax boss fined for Concorde cigarette

Miramax Films boss Harvey Weinstein has been fined �200 by a court after he was found smoking in the toilet during a Concorde flight to London.

The 47-year-old, whose company produced Shakespeare in Love and Pulp Fiction, did not attend the London hearing, but pleaded guilty to the offence by letter to the court.

He said he bitterly regretted the "very unfortunate incident", explaining he was an "extremely nervous traveller" and "foolishly" lit up to calm his nerves.

Ronan set for all-star charity concert

Boyzone singer Ronan Keating is among stars who will appear at a concert in London's Hyde Park on July 24 to raise awareness of breast cancer.

The heart-throb, whose mother Marie died of breast cancer last year, will appear with Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Martine McCutcheon.

Gabrielle and Republica will also play at the show, in aid of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

Meanwhile, Ronan has also set up a Marie Keating Cancer Awareness Fund.

Ex-Python Cleese's presidential role

Funnyman John Cleese is to play George Washington in his next film, according to reports.

The Monty Python star is said to have agreed to star in The Making Of The President 1789, a comedy about Washington's accidental rise to the top of American politics.

Steve Martin is also being lined up for a role in the movie, which will be directed by Ben Stiller, who starred in There's Something About Mary.

Bono online for World Debt campaign

Rock star Bono held an online chat to raise support for a campaign to cancel world debt.

U2's lead singer, who will present an anti-debt petition to G8 leaders at their summit on June 19, spent 90 minutes answering questions and then launched into a spontaneous sing-song.

The session, on behalf of Jubilee 2000, was handled by Microsoft, whose spokesman said "we doubled our record with almost two million page visits".

Blondie star delighted with comeback

Deborah Harry says she is delighted with the response to the comeback of her band Blondie, following the global success of new album No Exit.

"We were fairly confident because we knew we had a strong fan base and the reaction as been just fantastic," she says.

"We wanted to make the new album an update on our poetic statement but we also wanted it to sound like a Blondie album. We wanted it fresh for newcomers but accessible to the people who love us."

Edmonds heading back to radio

Noel Edmonds is going back to his roots by making a return to BBC Radio where he first became a household name.

The presenter, whose long-running House Party TV series ended earlier this year, is lined up to work on an end-of-the-century series for Radio2.

A spokeswoman for the station said: "It will be his personal tribute to broadcasting."

Edmonds joined Radio 1 in 1969 while in his early 20s.

Zoe's short cut to long hair

Radio 1 DJ Zoe Ball has disclosed she's taken a short cut to long hair - by spending eight hours in a salon having hair extensions.

But the star, who is thought to have had the image revamp in readiness for her wedding in August, seemed less than convinced about her new look on her show.

"There's no way I'm taking my hat off until I've had it cut," said Ball, who is marrying dance music guru Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim.
