 Friends writers are alleged to have told sex jokes |
A worker on TV series Friends who alleges she was sexually and racially harassed by writers has had her claim reinstated by an appeals court. Amaani Lyle said three writers constantly joked about women and sex, and often ridiculed black people, when she was a writer's assistant in 1999.
Her case was dismissed at Los Angeles County Superior Court in 2002.
It was reinstated in part by the second district court of appeal, which said it had not warranted a dismissal.
'Gestures'
When the case first came before court, the defendants argued that vulgar comments, gestures and jokes were a regular part of creating a program about sexually active young people.
The appeals court did not reinstate the entire claim against the three writers and Warner Bros Television Productions, however.
It refused to reinstate Ms Lyle's claim that she was fired because she is black and a woman.
It also refused to reinstate her claim that she faced retaliation because she complained about the dearth of black characters on the long-running series.
