Panthaki was "overwhelmed" with support after the incident |
EastEnders star Ray Panthaki, who plays Ronny Ferreira, has been hurt in an alleged attack at an Essex nightclub. The 25-year-old actor was said to have been hit with a bottle at Faces nightclub in Gants Hill on Saturday.
The soap actor was taken to an east London hospital to be treated for a wound above his eye.
"He was the subject of an unprovoked attack. He is going to be taking a few days off to recuperate," a BBC spokesman said.
Cast support
Mr Panthaki told The Sun newspaper: "I'm overwhelmed with the support I have had from friends, family and the EastEnders cast. Right now I just want to rest."
The incident took place in the nightclub's VIP area.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called at 1.10am on Saturday to the accident and emergency department of an east London hospital following an alleged assault on a male."
Last month EastEnders' executive producer Louise Berridge defended the show after a Mirror newspaper survey found that 57% of viewers thought it had lost its appeal.
