Tom Cruise joins Parkinson on ITV
Michael Parkinson
Parkinson signed a two-year deal to present his ITV1 Saturday talk show
Hollywood star Tom Cruise will join Michael Parkinson on the first week of his new ITV1 chat show.

The actor's appearance on Parkinson's debut show in September will coincide with the UK premiere of Cruise's latest movie Collateral.

Fellow actor Denzel Washington and supermodel Naomi Campbell will appear on the show's subsequent edition.

Parkinson, 69, moved to ITV1 after the BBC wanted to move his show to a new slot to make way for Match of the Day.

He first presented his BBC show in 1971, before becoming a founding presenter of ITV breakfast show TV-am in 1982.

On the final edition of his BBC show in May, Parkinson said: "It is not a solemn occasion, me leaving... no, no, it is only a talk show."

Stand-up comic Billy Connolly will also appear on the show with Tom Cruise, while supermodel Campbell will "talk candidly about her life in the public eye", on its second week.

The Streatham-born model will be joined by Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell.

Parkinson said on Monday that they were "two marvellous line-ups" to celebrate a new home for the show.
