Morrissey appears on a bill including The White Stripes

Morrissey is playing his first UK festival dates in over a decade.

The White Stripes are playing, having had to pull out last year after singer Jack White injured his hand.

Other artists announced for the August Bank Holiday events include Franz Ferdinand, The Offspring, Ash, 50 Cent, The Libertines and The Hives.

This year festival takes place over their weekend of 27-29 August at Richfield Avenue, Reading and Bramham Park, Wetherby, West Yorkshire.

Curating

Morrissey, who has had an intermittent solo career since the break up of The Smiths in 1987, is releasing a new album in May.

The singer, best known since The Smiths for solo tracks such as Everyday is Like Sunday and The More You Ignore, The Closer I Get, recently signed a new deal with Sanctuary Records.

He has been made artistic director of the this year's Meltdown festival, to be held at London's South Bank Centre in June.

The singer will put together his own programme of music and arts - but the line-up is yet to be confirmed.

"For me, this is a privilege and I will rise to it," Morrissey said. "Some of you have iPods, I have Meltdown."
