The final episode of Sex and the City drew more than four million viewers to Channel 4 on Friday. An average of 4.1 million watched the show, representing 26.8% of the viewing public, rising to a peak of 4.5 million half way through the show.
It followed highlights show Sex and the City Farewell, which was watched by an average of 3.5 million viewers.
EastEnders was Friday's most popular programme overall, drawing 12.5 million viewers to BBC One at 2000GMT.
Sex and the City was the most watched show in its one-hour slot, beating BBC One's Friday Night with Jonathan Ross among others.
During its six-year run Sex and the City won six Emmy awards and eight Golden Globes.
The conclusion of the show's plot, which followed the love lives of four professional women in New York, was a closely-guarded secret until its US broadcast on 22 February.
Series executive Michael Patrick is reported to be in talks with the show's cast and the HBO network about making a film of the series.
