David Soul said he was unfairly treated in the Channel 4 film |
Former Starsky and Hutch star David Soul has criticised Channel 4 for its portrayal of him in a documentary broadcast on Sunday. In an open letter to the station, he described the programme He's Starsky, I'm Hutch as "tabloid" television.
Soul, who co-operated in the making of the film, said he felt betrayed that it concentrated on his troubles with drink, money and domestic violence.
A Channel 4 spokesperson said the programme had been "fair and balanced".
In a letter to station executives, Soul said he was "disappointed with the tone" of the programme, which he accused of regurgiating "salacious" episodes from his personal history.
He said the programe failed to highlight more positive aspects such as his work for charity and social justice.
Channel 4 commissioning editor Andrew McKenzie said production company Monkey had "worked to the highest journalistic standards" when making the film.
"David fully co-operated with the film, which is told in his own words or those of his close family, friends and colleagues," he added.
