The site says it has had 700,000 visitors |
Coca-Cola's music download site Mycokemusic.com has said it has become Europe's biggest legitimate music site, with 10,000 songs sold every week. The site, which launched in January, said in a statement it had attracted more than 700,000 visitors in the last two months.
The site has boasted pre-release access to songs by artists such as Janet Jackson, Aqualung and Placebo.
The site said its most popular track was Outkast's Hey Ya!.
"The success of the site is down to a consumer desire to download music from a trusted brand at a competitive price," a spokesman said.
Drink promotion
"The figures from Mycokemusic.com have exceeded our expectations and we are delighted that consumers have adopted legal downloading in such great numbers and with a real enthusiasm," he said.
The site has received promotion from packs of the Coca Cola's drinks products, which the spokesman said had helped the site.
"The on-pack promotion has helped create mass awareness of the site and will allow millions more consumers to get into downloading," he said.
The site's launch was delayed in January after technical difficulties.
As well as downloading, the site also allows people to listen to songs through their computer for as little as 1p a time.
However, music downloaded from the website is not available in a form which can be played on Apple's iPod, the most popular portable media player in the world.
