The Darkness are especially popular on music download sites |
British rock band The Darkness have taken another step towards success in the US after their debut album reached gold sales status. Permission To Land has now sold more than 500,000 copies in the US - compared with 1.2 million in the UK.
The band recently won three Brit Awards and are now hoping to emulate their home success around the world.
Their album is number 33 in the US, and much of their US tour - which starts at the end of March - is now sold out.
Digital hit
Their single I Believe In A Thing Called Love was among the most popular new songs added to US radio playlists last week.
And it was number two in the download charts of two of the major digital music services, Napster and Apple iTunes.
Another British rock band, Lostprophets, have also made an impact, entering the US album chart at 33 two weeks ago.
But they both have some way to go before they match the success of other UK exports like Coldplay, who have sold more than three million albums in the US and spent 78 weeks on the chart.
