Love is charged with drug possession

"I didn't show up for court because I didn't have a professional bodyguard," Love told Stern on his talk show.

Stern urged Ms Love to apologise to the judge who told her she faces arrest if she does not attend court next week.

Ms Love, also an actress, faces charges of drug possession and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

A judge at Beverly Hills Superior Court issued an arrest warrant and ordered Ms Love, 39, to attend another hearing on Tuesday.

The cases relate to her arrest in October 2003 after police said she broke the windows of her boyfriend's house in the middle of the night.

During the Stern show Ms Love swore several times and her conversation was rambling, but she said she was "sober as a judge."

However, the general manager of WXRK in New York said he had to "bleep" her 15 times, setting a new record for a guest appearance on the show.

Prosecutors in the case said they believed she was ready to enter a guilty plea and ask to attend a drug diversion programme.

If she successfully completed the programme, the conviction would be removed from her record.

But she told Stern: "I'm not going to plead guilty to something I didn't do."

Ms Love's conversation with Stern ended with her demanding that he profess his love for her, and he obliged.
