Rings lose box office crown in US
Along Came Polly
Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston star in the film
Romantic comedy Along Came Polly has knocked The Return of the King from the top of the North American box office after a month at the number one spot.

Along Came Polly, which stars Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller, earned 27.6m (15.4m) during its first three days on release in the US and Canada.

The final instalment in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy fell to number four with takings of $10.2m (5.7m).

Tim Burton's Big Fish remained at two, with takings of $10.4m (5.8m).

Along Came Polly is about a romantically inept man (Ben Stiller) who enter into a risky romance.

"The audience obviously loves Ben Stiller in this type of movie," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office analysts Exhibitor Relations.

The film follows similar roles Stiller has played in films such as There's Something About Mary and Meet the Parents.

Tim Burton movie Big Fish had slowly built an audience since being released on a limited number of screens six weeks ago, and could benefit from awards in the next few months, said Mr Dergarabedian.

Big Fish is nominated for a best comedy film award at next month's Golden Globes, and has scooped seven Bafta nominations.

In third place this week was Torque, an action thriller starring rapper Ice Cube, which made $10.3m (5.7m).

Despite moving to fourth place, The Return of the King has so far taken more than $771.5m (428m) around the world since its release in December.
