Cruise enjoys mingling with fans at his premieres |
Actor Tom Cruise appeared on Portuguese television to ask a factory worker to marry her cameraman boyfriend, it has been reported. Joao Martins filmed the actor while covering The Last Samurai's Spanish premiere, Tal e Qual newspaper said.
"Sonia, you have to marry Joao. Please marry Joao. He is crying behind the camera," Cruise said in the clip, shown on state channel RTP later that day.
Martins' girlfriend immediately agreed to the request, the newspaper reported.
Mr Martins', who works for Portugal's RTP station, was on the phone to his girlfriend when the marriage proposal was aired.
Cruise also joked in the footage that they should name their children after him.
The couple plan to wed later in the year.
The cameraman said he was amazed when Cruise agreed to his request to deliver the proposal.
"All my girlfriend asked for was that I get his autograph," he said.
One of Cruise's trademarks has become mingling with his fans at premieres around the world, taking time to sign autographs and chat on their mobile phones.
During his trip to London early in January, he braved the cold weather to talk to fans and pose for photographs for more than two hours.
