Courteney Cox Arquette - Monica in the TV series Friends - is expecting her first child with David Arquette. The 39-year-old actress has struggled both on screen and in real life to have a baby, suffering a number of miscarriages in the past.
Cox and Arquette, who married in 1999, have spoken publicly about their infertility troubles and last year said they would try in-vitro fertilisation.
The pregnancy coincides with the last season of Friends after a 10-year run.
This year's episodes follow her character Monica's attempts to adopt a child.
"Yes, we are confirming they are expecting," said the actress's spokeswoman Nanci Ryder.
The couple are also moving into production, working on a 30-minute TV show called Mix It Up, which follows a housing makeover for people who live together, but have completely different tastes.
