Andy Serkis' Gollum was critically acclaimed |
UK film and TV body Bafta was forced to shut down its official awards voting website after a film studio noticed there were acting omissions and errors. The website is used to draw up the list of nominations for the prestigious film awards, to be held in February 2004.
But an error in "film data" meant actors such as Ray Winstone (Cold Mountain) and Andy Serkis (Return of the King) did not appear on the site.
Bafta said the new corrected site was back up and members could re-vote.
The organisation said only 1% of its members had voted before the mistakes were spotted.
The errors were spotted and reported by Buena Vista.
In a statement Bafta said: "The first round voting (for 416 films) went live last Monday. Within a couple of days, it came to light that there were some omissions in the film data so we immediately closed down the website.
The Baftas take place in February |
"The website was down for less than 48 hours." Omissions
Other omissions included John Rhys-Davies (Return of the King), Cuba Gooding Jr (The Fighting Temptations), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Cold Mountain) and Hope Davis (American Splendor).
The French actor Stephane Rousseau was mistakenly listed in the best actress category for his performance in The Barbarian Invasions.
The film body brought in online voting because the film awards are a week earlier than in 2003, being held on 15 February.
They are considered the highlight of the British film year and have seen a resurgence in prestige in recent years.
