"He will be back, he's not going anywhere. He'll be ordering everybody around, don't worry," she told GMTV.

"He's busy telling jokes all the time, he's already asked two nurses to marry him," she went on.

Osbourne cried when he was told Changes, his duet with daughter Kelly, topped the UK chart, she added.

"It's a dream come true for him. The first thing I told him when he came to was about his single. He couldn't speak but tears were coming out," Mrs Osbourne said.

The accident, which happened at his home in Buckinghamshire, left Osbourne with eight broken ribs and a cracked vertebra in his neck.

Mrs Osbourne told the show her husband could have died.

"He was just going across the land and he came to a bit that was uneven, the bike tipped over and bounced off his chest.

"He is so lucky, because if he hadn't been with his security guard Sam, he wouldn't be here because Sam had to revive him, in fact twice.

"When Sam got to him, he wasn't breathing and there was no pulse, and he got him back twice, so if he'd have been on his own we would have lost him.

'Amazing' recovery

"He is doing so good. He's so much better. He's off the ventilator and breathing on his own, he just has some assistance with some oxygen but he's doing it all on his own," Mrs Osbourne added.

The singer had undergone an "amazing" recovery in 24 hours, she added.

"I saw him the night before and there was no movement, nothing. I came in the next day and he was moving around, his eyes were wandering.

"He can't talk properly but he's got a little raspy voice," she said.

Osbourne is currently staying at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough where he was taken immediately after the quad accident for emergency surgery to restore the flow to a damaged blood vessel.

The singer has set a new record for the longest time taken to reach number one during a career, reaching the top of the charts 33 years after his first hit with Black Sabbath, Paranoid, got to number four in August 1970.

The previous record was set by Lulu, who took just over 29 years to rack up her first number one, according to the Book of Guinness World Records.

The Scottish singer's first single Shout reached number seven in May 1964 but it was not until October 1993 that she scored her first number one single, joining Take That on Relight My Fire.
