DJ Fox quits as chart announcer

Neil Fox sits on the Pop Idol judging panel
DJ Neil Fox is quitting as the voice of the commercial radio chart countdown after more than a decade.

He said he was struggling to cope with his workload, which includes his daily show on Capital FM and his role as a judge on Pop Idol.

The DJ, who until recently was known as Dr Fox, will stop presenting the charts in the new year.

Producers are now searching for a replacement, with TV's June Sarpong touted as a possible replacement.

Sarpong is currently a co-presenter of Channel 4's weekend youth strand T4.

He said: "It has become almost an eight day a week job. Something just had to give, and I decided that sadly it had to be Hit 40 UK.

"After 10 years it feels like my baby," he added.

The commercial charts are played on numerous radio stations around the UK, going out at the same time as BBC Radio 1's Official Charts Company rundown on Sunday evenings.
