The star's first number one was I Should Be So Lucky

The success of Slow, taken from Body Language, means Minogue, 35, has scored her seventh number one over three decades.

Her first chart-topper was I Should Be So Lucky in February 1988.

The gap between that number one and Slow is 15 years and nine months - beating Madonna's previous record timespan of 15 years and one month.

Blazin' Squad's Flip Reverse entered at number two, while Robbie Williams had a relatively low new entry at number 10 with Sexed Up.

Previous number one, Be Faithful by Fatman Scoop and the Crooklyn Clan, slipped off the top after two weeks, into third position.

Award boost

Boy band Blue's third album Guilty entered on top of the albums chart, knocking REM's best of... down into second place.

There were just three new albums in the top 20 with Bon Jovi's This Left Feels Right at number four, while Being Somebody by Liberty X went in at 12.

MTV Europe Music Award winners Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera appeared to have benefited from their success at last week's ceremony in Edinburgh.
