Meg Ryan starred with Billy Crystal in the film version |
Hit 1980s film When Harry Met Sally is to be made into a stage show in London's West End, starring US actor Luke Perry in Billy Crystal's role. The play is set to open in February for an initial limited run of 16 weeks.
The role of Sally - Meg Ryan in the film - was likely to go to an American actress, producer James Tod said.
Though best known as Dylan in the 80s TV series Beverly Hills 90210, Perry has appeared on Broadway in a 1990s revival of The Rocky Horror Show.
The stage version of When Harry Met Sally is the latest in a long line of hit movies to have spawned stage musicals and, more recently, plays.
The Graduate - a theatre version of the 1967 Mike Nichols film - had a lengthy run in the West End and a shorter engagement on Broadway.
And British hit movie Billy Elliot is being developed as a London stage musical to open next year.
One of the most famous scenes in the screen version of When Harry Met Sally is where Sally simulates an orgasm in the middle of a crowded restaurant.
The play is scheduled to open on 20 February at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Mr Tod said.
