The Rolling Stones had to cancel the original show because of Sars |
The Rolling Stones have played the first of two rescheduled shows in Hong Kong as part of a festival promoting the city after the Sars outbreak. Guitarist Keith Richards had said he would not be nervous about playing the show.
"You've got to be able to throw a fairly curved ball at me to be surprised," he said.
The band play their second concert in Hong Kong on Sunday night.
Did you go to the concert? Was it worth the wait after the earlier cancellations? Are they still one of the best bands in the world?

I was among those who saw the Stones last night in Hong Kong and, of course, the show was great and everyone I saw was having a great time. It reminded me that the only other time I had been to a Stones performance was sometime around 1962, in Sunderland, I think; it was all such a long time ago. Then, they were well down a bill topped by the Everly Brothers and also featuring Bo Diddley and Little Richard. At the time they were just another new group among many arriving onto the UK music scene and I still remember being shocked by their unkempt appearance on stage. How easily one was shocked then!
So it was good to see for myself that all these years later they still perform so well, and with such enthusiasm for their music. I have to say they were a lot better last night in Hong Kong than they were in Sunderland.

My husband, Chris Watts, and I are the "Rolling Stones Fans in Hong Kong", whose picture is featured on the previous page. Last night, the Stones were amazing and worth every penny we put in our front row seats. Keith is exceptional, calm, collected and so talented. Ronnie was having such a great time and Mick was his own self, stunning. He worked very hard to heat up the crowd. This might well be the only time they made it to Hong Kong. I am glad I did not miss it. I am looking forward to meeting them at the China Club tomorrow night.

Definitely worth the wait. It was an event that will be remembered for a long time and underlines the "if we want it, we'll get it" attitude that makes Hong Kong so special.

Just back from the second show. Both shows were awesome, but the second even better than the first,as I think a lot of die-hard Stones fans believe this could be "The Last Time" they perform live, so were readier than ever to shout along with the Stones' great anthems......after all, it's amazing they've rocked on for so long. Frankly, if tickets had been double the price,it would have been worth it. The rest of Harbour Fest may have been a waste of money, but the Stones made up for any disappointment.

The Stones were brilliant on Friday night, a fitting cap to what has actually been a great musical festival. Harbour Fest has had a huge amount of negative publicity, but the people that actually went to the shows, instead of complaining about them, had a fantastic time. We don't get a lot of big name live music in Hong Kong, so this has been a magic experience and I can only hope that the doubters are won over, such that the rumour of making it an annual event is carried through.

Yes I was there and they were absolutely brilliant! Well worth the wait and yes one of the best bands - true professionals. The location was fantastic too pity HK doesn't keep it for similar events but it's a prime location so worth a lot of money to developers.

I was right up front next to chief executive Tung Chee Waa. Everyone had tons of fun and Jagger, who took a while to motivate the crowd, looked as though he was having a blast too. Keith winked at my wife who wore a very low cut red bustier. Glad he acknowledged her. We were painetd with logos on our faces and body! They played really the best set I have heard them play. Super polished.

I was at the Stones Concert - it was superb and well worth the wait, although the whole SARS thing was overblown by the media.

Fantastic! Well worth the wait. Hopefully some of those who have been critical of Harbour Fest were there to see what a good event it has been. It has had problems but it was been a great festival and those who have made the effort to go have had a great time

Mick had such amazing energy for his age, and even more that he sung and jumped about for nearly 2 hours non-stop! His song 'Honky Tonk Woman', with graphics, went down a treat!! Well worth the wait!

They are still the greatest rock and roll band in the world and most of last night's crowd would probably agree. Not everyone though, at one point the person in front of me was playing Tetris on his mobile phone!

The grandfathers of Rock rock !!! It was worth the 2 day trip into Hong Kong. Still Hong Kong is way too expensive to make it a holiday destination. Try Taipei instead !

Was it worth it? What a daft question! Watching the world's premier live band in a stunning setting on Hong Kong's harbourside, surrounded by the city's awesome skyline. This was an event of a lifetime and the Stones did not let us down.

I had tickets for the concert cancelled during the SARS outbreak and so was delighted when the concerts were back on again. I last saw the Stones in 1976 in Paris and over a quarter of a century later they were just as energetic, but if anything tighter and more exciting than all those years ago. I thought the choice of songs was inspired featuring the old hits that everyone likes to shout along to, plus excellent numbers from 'Beggars Banquet' and 'Let it Bleed' rarely heard these days. There's been a lot of fuss here in HK about various aspects of the Harbour Fest but to my mind the venue was one of the most stunning I have ever been to, the atmosphere superb and the band along with their backing musicians and singers a sensation!
