British expertise in special effects generates nearly �1.4bn for the country's economy, according to a new report from the UK Film Council. Post-production work on such films as Tomb Raider, Underworld and Harry Potter generates 15,000 jobs.
The report says nearly 1,000 firms work in this sector providing sound, music, graphics and effects for film and TV.
"The film industry can be proud of its cutting edge post-production sector," said Films Minister Estelle Norris.
"This report finally gives the sector the recognition it so richly deserves.

"I look forward to working closely with the new trade body to help the sector develop and grow." The report - Post-production in the UK - suggests Britain ranks alongside countries like the US as a top provider of visual effects.
Growth area?
And with post-production now accounting for a quarter of movie budgets - up 13% from two years ago - British firms are playing a key role in what is widely seen as a growth area in film.
In addition to movies, UK companies are providing sound, graphics, music and effects for the advertising industry and across television.
British Film Commissioner Steve Norris, a member of the Film Council, said: "The UK has a wealth of creative and technical talent and it is important that we make the most of it.
"The post-production sector in the UK has a world-renowned reputation and this report points the way to ensuring we build on our current success in the future."
Post production companies are now hoping to set up a body to give their part of the industry a united voice.
