Kelly was cleared of all allegations |
TV presenter Matthew Kelly has spoken openly to chat show host Frank Skinner about his January arrest over a sex abuse allegation. Stars in their Eyes host Kelly was later fully cleared by police.
He tells ITV1's The Frank Skinner Show on Monday he was concerned about how his career would be affected by the stories of his arrest.
"If you don't have your name, you don't have anything, and that was the thing that was most frightening," Kelly said.
Kelly also tackles Skinner about jokes he made on another TV show about his arrest.
A spokesman for Skinner's show said: "What he[Kelly] does is open up a debate about the ethics of making people the focus of jokes in topical comedy.
"Frank is pulled up for what he said, but he lets him talk and open up about what he has gone through."
Kelly was arrested as he came off stage from a pantomime in Birmingham over an allegation of abuse dating back to the 1970s.
Frightening
After strenuously denying the allegations, he was cleared by police a month later.
Talking about his arrest, Kelly tells Skinner: "I have been told I will never find out what happened. But I'd like to. It would help me a lot."
