Jeepers Creepers 2 could not match its American success in the UK
Horror film Jeepers Creepers is the highest new entry in the UK film charts this week, earning nearly 1.07m in its first three days to take third place.

The film could not match the success it had on the other side of the Atlantic, where it made $18.5m (11.8m) on its opening weekend to debut at the top of the North American movie charts.

The film, about a group of teenagers stalked by a mysterious winged killer, is the sequel to a hit horror film of 2001.

In the UK, Pirates of the Caribbean continued to attract audiences in its fourth week, taking more than $2m to bring its total to 18.6m, and first place on the charts.

In second place was American Pie: The Wedding, which took nearly 1.5m to take second place.

The only other new entry in the top ten was Hollywood Homicide, starring Harrison Ford, which debuted at number eight.

Labor Day rise

In the US, the arrival of Jeepers Creepers 2 ended the two week reign at the top of Freddy Vs Jason, another horror sequel. It fell to number seven.

The Jeepers Creepers sequel beat the 2001 original's $15.8m (10.1m) debut.

The top 12 films took $101.2m (64.7m) in the US and Canada during the Labor Day weekend, an 11% increase on the same period last year.

In second place was comedy Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Curtis, which jumped from fourth place the previous week. It took $11.7m (7.5m) to make a four-week total of nearly $90m (57.7m).
