Sir Elton's Are You Ready For Love featured on a TV ad

Are You Ready For Love made number 42 when it was first released in May 1979, but has returned to enter this week's chart at number one.

The track made its comeback in July for a Sky Sports commercial featuring Sir Elton, promoting the station's football coverage.

The 56-year-old singer is a former chairman of Division One side Watford, and he donated his fee from the ad to the club.

His latest success comes almost six years after his rewritten Candle In The Wind, marking the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, became the world's biggest-selling single ever.

Sir Elton's other number ones were Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, with George Michael in 1991, Sacrifice in 1990, and his 1976 duet with Kiki Dee, Don't Go Breaking My Heart.

He also featured on the 2002 Blue charttopper Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word.

The new chart also features R&B star Sean Paul at number two and number three - the first performer to occupy two of the top three slots since Madonna in 1985.

He features on Blu Cantrell's song Breathe at number two, and his own Like Glue is a new entry one place behind.

Madonna was at number one with Into The Groove in July 1985, with Holiday two places lower.

Former Five singer Abs entered the chart at number five with his single Miss Perfect, while American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson enjoyed an encouraging start to her UK career, with Miss Independent entering at number six.

Appearances at last weekend's Reading and Leeds festivals helped rock band The Darkness' album, Permission To Land, leap to number one.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's album Take Them On Your Own was also buoyed by successful shows at the festivals, entering at number three.

Bandleader and jazz legend James Last was said to be "over the moon" as he topped the classical charts for the first time in a 50-year career with double-album The Classical Collection.
