TV coverage of England's crucial Euro 2004 qualifier on Saturday broke the record for the highest audience ever to watch satellite, digital or cable TV. Sky Sports 1 was watched by 4.1 million people on domestic TVs at the game's climax - more than any other channel except BBC One and ITV1 at that time.
Viewers saw England draw with Turkey to qualify for next year's championships.
The Sky audience was only just smaller than the one that tuned in for the highlights on ITV1 later that night.
Six-year record
An average of 3.8 million watched the whole match on Sky Sports 1 - compared with 4.5 million for the ITV1 highlights.
The unofficial overnight figures do not cover those who saw either network's coverage in pubs and clubs.
Euro Tour Golf on Sky Sports 2 was seen by just 4,000 people at the same time while a rugby union update on Sky Sports 3 registered a zero rating.
The previous record for a multi-channel audience was held by another crucial football qualifier, Italy versus England, in 1997, according to the Media Guardian website.
Media Guardian also reported that Sky Sports paid �3m to show Saturday's clash live.
