Franken's book became a bestseller after the controversy |
United States television channel Fox News has dropped legal action against a satirist for using their slogan "fair and balanced" on his book cover. Fox News had wanted damages from Al Franken and publishers Penguin over the book, called Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.
They said readers might mistake the book for a Fox product - whereas it is actually a scathingly comical critique of the US news media.
A judge refused to block Franken's use of the slogan on Friday - leading the channel, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, to drop the lawsuit.
Franken joked that he was "disappointed" the lawsuit had been withdrawn, saying: "I was hoping they'd keep it going for a few more news cycles."
A Fox News spokeswoman said: "It's time to return Al Franken to the obscurity that he's normally accustomed to."
