 Calendar Girls has proved a hit British comedy |
The BBC has bought the terrestrial TV rights to show blockbuster movies including Calendar Girls and Chicago. The corporation has signed a deal with film company Buena Vista to screen 100 recent, upcoming and classic movies.
Other films in the package include Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hours and the forthcoming drama Cold Mountain, starring Nicole Kidman.
The BBC plans to screen the collection of films across its channels from the end of 2004.
Talked-about movies
The deal also includes a number of classic films including Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca and the Oscar-winning The English Patient.
Tom Toumazis, managing director of Buena Vista Television said: "We are delighted to provide the BBC with this collection of some of the world's most talked-about recent and upcoming films."
They covered all genres from action-packed blockbusters to award-winning drama, he said.
"This broad selection of features from our portfolio will provide high quality, timeslot-winning entertainment for BBC viewers of all ages and tastes."
