Mick Jagger is suffering with a sore throat

A sore throat forced the front man to cancel a concert in Amsterdam on Wednesday.

He said: "We are sorry to disappoint the fans who were planning to come to Wednesday's show.

"We will be back in September to do the gig - and will give you a Stones show you'll not forget."

Jagger had already performed five shows in the Netherlands, singing to more than 180,000 fans.

But he suffered a sore throat as a result of a cold and doctors advised him to give his voice a break.

Problems

Jagger added: "I will be suitably recharged, recovered and fit for Saturday's kick-off of the UK dates at Twickenham stadium, in our home town."

The Stones play two concerts in Twickenham followed by a further seven shows in the UK and two in Ireland.

The Stones have had to cancel a number of shows on their 40 Licks world tour due to band illness, safety fears in Belgrade, the Sars outbreak in Asia and problems with their flights.

Earlier this week, the band revealed that songs from its back catalogue would be available on the internet for the first time.

Songs from the band's 40-year career will be accessible through the RealNetworks Rhapsody service and retailer Best Buy for two weeks.

After that, the Stones' music on the EMI/Virgin labels will be offered through EMI's digital distribution services.
