Prince Charles meets Dan Aykroyd |
The Prince of Wales mingled with a host of Britain's best-loved actors at the premire of Stephen Fry's new film. Sir John Mills and Jim Broadbent were among the cast members who attended the screening of Fry's directorial debut Bright Young Things in central London.
Based on the Evelyn Waugh novel Vile Bodies, the film is a love story and social satire about a wild destructive young party set in 1930s London.
Pregnant star Emily Mortimer was unable to attend after going into labour.
Fry, who was dressed in a blue velvet oriental-style jacket, introduced the Prince to cast members of the film.
Broadbent, who has starred in films such as Moulin Rouge and Iris, said the Prince had joked with him about the ageing process.
The Prince also took time to chat with Sir John Mills, 95, who also appears in the film.
"He asked if it was getting difficult to learn my lines as I got older and I had to admit it was," he said.
'Bad luck'
As well as a host of British stars, the film also stars Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters actor Dan Aykroyd, as well as The West Wing's Stockard Channing.
Sir John Mills, 95, also appears in the film |
Fellow actor Michael Sheen, who plays Miles, was introduced to Charles with an extravagant multi-coloured rug-style drape hanging around his shoulders.
The premire raised 50,000 for the Prince's trust, which raises money for disadvantaged young people.
The film marks a new direction for Fry, who came to fame as a comic actor in shows such as Blackadder and with comic sketches with Hugh Laurie.
He has also appeared on the big screen, notably as Oscar Wilde in 1997's Wilde.
