The Pop Idol-style show is very popular in Lebanon |
Angry fans of a Pop Idol-style Arab television show staged a protest after a Lebanese singer was voted out on Monday. About 150 Lebanese supporters of Melhem Zein gathered outside a Beirut television studio after he lost out in the semi-final of Superstar.
The two female finalists, from Jordan and Syria, fainted during the fracas and were taken to hospital according to witnesses.
Zein's fans were furious at the show's outcome.
"With our blood and souls, we sacrifice for you Melhem," they shouted.
Many of them were waving pictures of the singer outside the studio.
A spokesman for the show's sponsor, Future TV, said the voting process was all above board.
Ali Jaber said Zein had lost in a fair contest judged by the viewers who voted by phone, text message and online via the internet.
