Crowe sings in the band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts

The Oscar-winning actor sent a personal letter to Harris saying he was his "childhood hero" and that he will try to attend the event at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Crowe told Harris that he would try to arrange his schedule and bring his band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, to the UK for the concert to mark Harris' 50 years in showbusiness.

Harris, 73, said: "I'm thrilled to bits. I've had the most lovely note from Russell Crowe in which he has been kind enough to say he will be there if he possibly can."

He added: "Wouldn't that be something - on stage at the Royal Albert Hall with the Gladiator himself."

Crowe also told Harris that Two Little Boys was his favourite song as a child growing up in Australia.

The concert will see Harris display both his artistic and musical skills, singing his hit songs such as Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport and Jake the Peg.

Organisers hope fellow Australian Kylie Minogue will make an appearance alongside other celebrity guests.

Proceeds from the concert on 29 September are going to the Prince's Trust charity.
