Angelina Jolie plays the feisty Lara Croft |
The latest Lara Croft video game is being blamed for the poor US debut of the Tomb Raider sequel also featuring the all-action heroine.
The Cradle Of Life entered the box office chart at number four, and took less than half the takings of the first Lara Croft film which opened in 2001.
"The only thing we can attribute to is that gamers were not happy with the latest version of the video game," said Paramount studio's Wayne Lewellen.

The game's makers, UK-based Eidos, had no comment to make about the claims. Tomb Raider - The Cradle of Life, stars Angela Jolie as the computer game character.
The second Tomb Raider movie took $21.8m (13.4m), and was heavily criticised by film critics.
The game was released in the United States on 20 June and in early July in Europe after repeated delays put it months behind schedule.
It is currently the number two game across all formats in the UK and received a lukewarm reaction from video game critics.
