The Black Eyed Peas have denied Dido her first number one single by debuting at the top of the new chart. The US group - featuring vocals from Justin Timberlake - also displaced Elton John to number three.
Big Brovaz, Iron Maiden and Starsailor also claimed new entries in the top 10, with veteran rockers the Rolling Stones scoring their 40th top 40 hit.
The Darkness remained top of the album chart, while Sir Elton's greatest hits collection soared from 106 to six.
Kylie is top calendar star
Kylie Minogue has achieved another number one - as the leading female calendar star of the last 25 years.
She has beaten Madonna, Britney Spears and a host of supermodels to have sold the most celebrity calendars featuring women.
But she still has to catch up with veteran star Sir Cliff Richard, who has shifted 1.5m calendars over the years.
Robbie Williams, Blue and Elvis Presley trail in his wake, according a major calendar manufacturing company.
Stones reschedule China dates
The Rolling Stones are planning to play their first concert in China in November after cancelling shows earlier this year because of Sars.
They are scheduled to play on 14 November in Beijing at the 17,000-seat Capital Gymnasium.
The Stones also may play shows in Hong Kong and Shanghai, although dates have not been confirmed.
They had been scheduled to play in Beijing and Shanghai in April but pulled out after an outbreak of Sars killed 349 people.
Rings DVD scoops awards
The DVD release of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring won four of the 15 trophies handed out at the sixth annual DVD Awards in the US.
It triumphed in the categories for best authoring, best video presentation, best special edition and best in show.
The ceremony in New York is held to honour technical and artistic achievement in DVD releases.
It is organised by the International Recording Media Association and United Media Entertainment.
