Kelly returns after police ordeal

TV presenter Matthew Kelly is to return as host of Stars In Their Eyes after child sex abuse allegations against him were dropped.

Kelly had been replaced by Davina McCall and Cat Deeley on the show while police investigated allegations that he sexually abused a young boy.

But in February, police dropped the inquiry and confirmed they would take no action, clearing Kelly's name.

"We are looking forward to working with Matthew again on the three celebrity Stars In Their Eyes," said a spokeswoman for Granada, which makes the show.

The police investigation was "a terrible time" for the star, the spokeswoman said.

"We are just glad it is all way behind him now."

There would be "a great line-up" for his comeback shows, including actress Brigitte Nielsen performing as Madonna, she added.

Supportive

Kelly was arrested in January in his dressing room in Birmingham, where he was starring in pantomime Captain Hook.

He then went on a UK tour in a production of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.

But when the police investigation was dropped, he said: "I would just like to say to everybody who has supported me that the public have been fantastic and all the theatre people lovely."

He received a formal caution after officers discovered a small quantity of a class A drug at his house.

Kelly started presenting the prime-time Saturday show in 1992, and became one of the UK's most popular family entertainers.
