Washington won the Best Actor Oscar in 2002 |
Denzel Washington makes his directorial debut in Antwone Fisher, and also takes a role in front of the camera as a naval pyschiatrist. The film is based on the real life story of a US marine (played by Derek Luke) who goes off the rails and discovers his childhood experiences are still haunting him.
"The film is at once a competent yet clichd affair. Washington draws gripping performances from all of his first-time stars - and himself - and lays claim to the moniker of being an 'actor's director'" said BBC News Online's Michael Hubbard.
So what do you think?
Is it too sentimental? Or just an enjoyable weepie?
Hardly original. It should be called Good Will Hunting Joins The Navy.
