Domain Fields: Your views
Antony Gormley with his sculptures
Gormley was also behind The Angel of the North
Antony Gormley's Domain Fields exhibition features metal sculptures based on plaster cast moulds from 240 naked volunteers.

The moulds were used as the foundation for Gormley to produce the sculptures from thin stainless steel strips which fill an entire floor of the Baltic gallery in Gateshead.

"Walking through the Domain Field is an eerie experience, as if a crowd had been suddenly vaporised, leaving only the barest trace behind," said BBC News Online's Rachael Colling.

But what do you think?

Did it have an impact on you when you walked in? Or was it underwhelming?

I was also lucky enough to be a model (number 113) and so involved in the process, but it's amazing to see the sculptures for real. I saw it for the second time on Sunday when the gallery was busy and sunlight streaming through the rooflights, and the sculptures seemed to shimmer and dance as people walked through them - and everyone I saw was smiling, laughing or talking loudly about them, taking photos, just looking like they were having a good time.

If you're not sure about them, or even if you are, come and have a look, seeing them for real is much more effective than any photo can be. I think they're joyous
Hayley, Newcastle, UK

The idea sounds a bit strange but when you see the models "in the flesh" it's truly thought prevoking. The delicate balance of the structures makes them move - spooky.
Jim Potts, UK

I went and saw the Domain Field exhibit today, and it was truly amazing. Wandering amongst the figures was a fantastic and surreal experience, as a room filled with a haze of metal suddenly took on form and figures appeared out of it. Watching others mingle amongst the wire crowd only added to the effect. Antony Gormley's other exhibits in the Baltic at the moment are equally stunning - he's a true national treasure!
Paul Brierley, United Kingdom

To Ian Hutchings: He may not have carried out the fabrication himself, but you could say the same of most modern art, monumental sculpture, and a good percentage of each of the paintings of Leonardo da Vinci. There are a lot of chancers in the art world who are completely divorced from the creative process, but their "work" tends only to appeal to critics. There's no question that this installation's going to appeal to people who don't have a vested interest in being elitist snobs.
Kevin, Ireland

I love this piece, it's like the memory of all the people who have walked arround the gallery
Aletta, UK
Absolutely stunning. Gormley really has the trick of creating situations which draw the viewer in. I have always found his work extraordinarily moving, from the first time I saw Field for the British Isles in St Ives. I can't wait to see this latest creation in situ.
Ben Harding, UK

This is a fantastic event. I was lucky enough to be a model, and have seen my domain amongst the others. All I would say to those who are negative and critiscise - go and see it then judge - like the Gateshead Angel, it's new, it's different, and most importantly, it's for the North East!!
Kevin, UK

Gormley is a clever con man and appeals to a gullible misguided fraternity. The Angel of the North is a monstrosity and should be cut up for scrap. It defiles the skyline of the North East of England. This latest metal nude idea is a complete and utter waste of time and money. I have seen better "sculptures" in a scrapyard, where you could obtain them for nothing.
John W. Batey, England

It is not every day that one can walk within a piece of art and be persuaded that, on average, human beings are made of the same forbidding matter cast in slightly different moulds. Realising that anyone, really, could have been a model for this is quite amazing.
Elena Vasiliu, Romania

Fabulous even in a virtual state. I think they could have more impact live! Visually stunning and really that's what art's about.
Stewart Thornton, Scotland

Fabulous. Bring Antony Gormley to Cardiff!!! We'd definitely win the City of Culture title. The guy is a genius.
Beth, Wales

I think they are beautiful. They have an ethereal other-world quality like a drift of ghosts

Another hoax perpetrated! Once again the ease with which "average" people can be sold a "bill of goods," has been illustrated! Tell people something enough times and they will begin to believe it...whether it pertains to weapons of mass destruction or phoney "art."
June Lopez, USA

The end product looks very interesting, but why did he need to make the moulds? Surely, as a sculptor, he could have modelled the forms from life observations. This really shows up the weakness underlying current art practices.
Roger, UK

What an utter load of rubbish. If this is what they call art then I feel really sorry for those that get caught up in all this hype. I mean you can walk down any high street and see exactly the same only they call them mannekins or tailor's dummys. The other dummies are the folk who rave over this kind of inane and senseless waste of time and money!!!!!
Dave, UK

The finished article looks amazing. When the work was being carried out, gazing down on a room of 200 full sized plaster bodies standing in silent, still lines was quite something in itself!
Mike, UK

Just fantastic. After all the emphemeral and trivial work that is advanced as the "latest thing", here is something that is clearly meaningful and lasting. As with A field for the British Isles, Domain Field is powerful because it is human in scale and because it draws something beautiful from a disparate group of people who would otherwise ignore the diktats of the goateed, Armani clad comissars of modern art.
Piers, USA

I think they are beautiful. They have an ethereal other-world quality like a drift of ghosts. Having said that I hate the Angel of the North and think it's the ugliest thing I've ever seen!
Louisa, UK

Load of old nonsense - stick it all in a scrapyard
Nobby, UK
Looks fab and jazzy. Never mind the arty nonsense spewed by the artist and critics. It's visually impressive which makes it interesting - just like the Angel of the North. It makes you reflect on people and life in general. Anything which get you to do this in this day and age gets my vote of approval.
John , Sheffield

Absolutely amazing. The Angel of the North is a breath-taking piece and, after hearing Antony on Today this morning, I am eager to see his latest work. From the pictures, it looks beautiful.
David McManus, UK

Nobby, UK

I am steadily re-evaluating Gormley as a pompous and repetitive bore.
JET, UK

Terrific. Such a simple, but brilliant idea. Worth travelling north to see.
Steve Horner, UK
