The play, which features Right Size comics Hamish McColl and Sean Foley and is directed by Kenneth Branagh, will close on Sunday.

The $2m (�1.25m) Broadway version of the play, an affectionate homage to legendary British comedy duo Morecombe and Wise, followed rave reviews of the West End run.

It opened with favourable reviews in the US and the show had been tipped to win a Tony on Sunday.

But it was beaten in the best theatrical performance category by the hip-hop culture piece Def Poetry Jam.

It has completed only 89 performances. It includes a celebrity cameo each night, and has featured stars such as Kevin Kline, Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow and Alan Alda.

Last month the play made headlines after guest star Roger Moore collapsed during his performance. He was rushed to hospital with respiratory problems but later released.
