This year's festival sold out in 24 hours |
The Glastonbury Festival has officially announced details of bands appearing at this year's event. As previously reported, the festival will be headlined by REM on Friday 27 June, Radiohead on Saturday and Moby on Sunday.
Newly announced bands include David Gray, Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals and Feeder.
Glastonbury is the UK's biggest rock festival and takes place near the village of Pilton in Somerset.
The festival's website has revealed that acts including Suede, Supergrass and the Flaming Lips will also play on the Pyramid stage.
We had to turn down one or two famous names, unfortunately |
Organiser Michael Eavis, who hosts the festival, told BBC News Online: "It is actually the best line-up [ever]. "I know I say this every year, but it has to be with all those bands playing.
"We had to turn down one or two famous names, unfortunately, because the headline slots had already been taken."
Other confirmed acts include Fatboy Slim, Buena Vista Social Club, The Streets, Alison Moyet and Cerys Matthews.
The festival was eventually granted a licence this year after local residents complained about crime and environmental damage.
'Super fence'
Organisers have promised to improve security on the site and the local area.
Last year, a 1m "super fence" was built to keep out fans without tickets, after thousands jumped the fence at the 2000 event.
Festival organisers have also taken out ads in the press warning people who do not have tickets to stay away from the site.
Organisers are also appealing to any fans who have their own film footage of past festivals to submit it for Glastonbury - the Movie.
The movie, to be directed by Julien Temple, who made rock films like The Filth and the Fury, will tell the story of the festival's 33-year history, and fans will be paid if their footage is used.
