The first DVD was a huge success

Plot hints from JK Rowling's forthcoming book Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix have been revealed in an American catalogue.

Secrets from the long-awaited novel have been printed in promotional material from US publisher Scholastic.

Harry Potter confronts "the unreliability of government and the impotence of the authorities at Hogwarts," the catalogue says.

The new defence of the dark arts teacher has a personality "like poisoned honey" and Harry's best friend Ron Weasley becomes keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

The schoolboy hero also has nightmares about a door in a silent corridor which is "more terrifying than every other nightmare combined".

The highly anticipated book will be published on 21 June.

The second film in the series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is released on DVD and video on Friday.

Over half a million advance copies have already been sold.

Dobby tries to stop Harry returning to school

The first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, sold 1.25 million copies on its first day but the Chamber of Secrets could break that record.

The DVD includes 19 deleted scenes, tours around Lockhart's classroom and Diagon Alley and a computer car game called the Forbidden Forest.

There are also interviews with JK Rowling and scriptwriter Steve Kloves and director Chris Columbus.

In the film, Harry - played by Daniel Radcliffe - is warned not to return to Hogwarts by house-elf Dobby.

Harry ignores the threats and defeats the dark force hiding in the school's secret chamber, with the help of his friends Ron and Hermione.

The third film in the series, The Prison of Azkaban, will be released next year.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring holds the record for the most DVDs and videos sold on the first day of release in the UK.

The Tolkein epic shifted 1.27 million copies on its first day in the shops in May last year.
