Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets DVD: Your views
Dobby the house-elf
The film was released in December 2002
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets has been released on video and DVD.

The DVD "extras" include games, tours of the set, interviews, deleted scenes and photo galleries.

"The DVD has improved on the interactivity of the first and made it simpler to navigate," wrote BBC News Online's Emma Saunders.

But what do you think?

I thought the set up to the Chamber of Secrets DVD was much more user-friendly than Sorcerer's Stone. Of course, this does take away a bit of the fun that comes from finally discovering all of the hidden material!

It's a great improvement on the previous release. The interactive tour is pretty cool and it's easier to navigate than the last one.

The new Harry Potter DVD is much better in terms of being easier to use and navigate than the first one. Unlike the Philosopher's stone (Sorcerer's Stone here in the states) DVD, you don't have to figure out many puzzles and clues to get to the bonus features. As for the film itself it is simply wonderful. All the actors really bring the magic of the book to the screen. I can't wait until Prisoner of Azkaban comes out next year!
Eric, Florida, USA

It's definately better than The Philosopher's Stone.
Don, Singapore

It was way better than the first film. It may have been the weaker book but it was certainly the best film so far.
Kristen, Canada

At least you don't have to spend the day searching for the deleted scenes. This actually does have a simpler navigation system and the interactive elements are quite fun.

This dvd is fantastic! I love it, the extras are so cool.

Some of the deleted scenes were actually in the movie when I saw it at the cinema e.g. the introduction of Lucius Malfoy in Diagon Alley. So now I know what deleted scenes means - deleted from the DVD presentation, not the cinema version!
Peter, London, UK

The new DVD is way better than the original and the original was so great.

The special features material on the second DVD improves on the Philosopher's Stone release as fans journey into the world of witchcraft and wizardry. There is a behind the scenes section, much missed from the first Potter DVD, which includes cast interviews, featuring an interview with the late Richard Harris, and there is an interview with Harry Potter author J K Rowing.

The DVD is packed with deleted scenes easily accessible from a simple to use menu. These include a humorous version of the cake levitation spell at the Dursleys house and the delightful Gilderoy Lockhart quiz scene. There are tours of the Lockhart classroom and Diagon Alley which are good, although if like me you would have preferred a livelier voice over on the first Potter DVD release you may be a little disappointed.

As on the Philosopher's Stone there is still no information on the filming locations or production techniques employed in making the movie. Aside from this I did find there to be a more comprehensive selection of extra material complementing the movie on the second disc.

Many adults will find the special features easier to navigate than the first Harry Potter DVD, though children would no doubt have been thrilled by computer game style of the first DVD. This Chamber of Secrets is sure to appeal to Potter fans of all ages as it is a more entertaining release than the Philosopher's Stone and provides something to occupy their minds while they wait for the publication of the next Harry Potter book, the Order of the Phoenix, in June.

The Chamber of Secrets was much better all around, movie wise and much more user friendly. Much easier to access and easier to find the deleted scene's. My children and I found it a complete joy and cannot wait for the next.
Tammy, Canadian living in Finland

The second movie is so much better than the first one! I loved Philosopher's Stone so much and I was very scared - the second movie couldn't be better, but it definitely was! The special features are better organised and easier to see. Yes, I LOVE the dvd.

It's much easier to get to the deleted scenes in the Chamber of Secrets DVD, but most of the deleted scenes were just a very few seconds. There were a couple of longer ones, but for the most part they were very quick. As a movie, the Chamber of Secrets was a poor adaptation of the book. The Philosopher's Stone was much better in that regard. All of the subplots that made the Chamber of Secrets such a good book were missing in the movie. It seems that all they wanted to do was to get the main point across and unfortunately, did a horrible chop job in the process.
Judy Wood, USA

The film is an excellent re-creation of the book but the special features are dull and seem to have been incuded only to give the perception of more value for money. Should have been on one disk and cheaper.
Ian, UK

Wicked!!! Just as good as the Philosopher's Stone. This is a great film, and I'd recommend it to anyone. The DVD menu system is very easy to navigate, but nothing compares to the film itself.
Dave Jones, UK

Chamber is a much better offering, both in terms of the ease of navigation and the actual film. An already excellent cast complimented by Mark Williams, Robert Hardy, Julie Walters and the brilliant Jason Isaacs as the dastardly Lucius Malfoy. Chamber is much less linear than Philosopher's Stone and despite delivering the prize in an exposition at the climax, is a much darker and more intriguing film than the first.

...oops and I nearly forgot Kenneth Brannagh!
Cliffe, UK

This is a far superior DVD to the original, which was pretty bland, sadly. I think that the deleted scenes were very good, some should have been in the actual movie, such as Lockhart's class test and the sinister Malfoys at Borgin's dark arts shop. Lockhart and Lucius didn't get enough screen time!!
Daryl, Glasgow, UK

It is a great film and is totally recommended to own on DVD as all the extra features are well worth it. It is a great film by far, the third one should be just as good.
Pritesh , London

Very clever to appeal to children of all ages. We are all growing up again alongside Harry Potter and his friends. I'm sure this will go down in history as one of the all time greats of family entertainment alongside the original Jungle Book. Even the additions are good which makes a change!
Dave, Chatham Kent UK

Why couldn't the deleted scenes have been edited back into the movie? Like on Fellowship of the Ring. Watching them all individually is a bit stop-start if you ask me. (Which you didn't, but I'm telling you anyway!)
