The band have now cancelled five concerts in the Far East

It is the third date the British rock band have postponed following the cancellation of concerts in Hong Kong and China because of the deadly Sars virus.

The Stones were due to play their first ever concert in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Some members of the band, including Mick Jagger, had already arrived in Thailand but their entourage was left in India, where the band last performed, because of technical problems with their plane.

Jagger took advantage of the break to film scenes for a forthcoming documentary on the popularity of the band.

The Rolling Stones intend to reschedule the concert but no date has yet been given.

Organisers had anticipated a near-capacity crowd at the 11,500-seat Impact Stadium.

The band had originally considered cancelling the concert over fears of the Sars virus.

Disappointment

Thailand has recorded a handful of cases, including at least two deaths from the deadly flu-like illness.

But they eventually decided to press ahead with the Thailand date only to see it cancelled because of a grounded plane.

Fans in Hong Kong and China were left disappointed at the end of March following the postponement of four concerts in the region.

Jagger and the rest of band expressed their disappointment at not being able to travel to the countries but promised they would try to return to fulfil their commitments in the future.
