Kylie Minogue performed at the Astoria

The concert venue was initially turned down for an entertainment licence by Westminster City Council on the grounds of safety.

Concerns were raised following a double shooting at an after-show party held there by the controversial rap collective So Solid Crew.

The council had not been satisfied enough was being done to safeguard the public.

But Mean Fiddler, the organisation which runs the venue, appealed against the decision.

The magistrates hearing the appeal said he was satisfied the owners could meet the high demands set by Westminster City Council.

Vince Power, chairman of Mean Fiddler and Astoria licensee, said: "This is obviously very good news.

"I'm delighted that the magistrate court has confirmed the faith in the management structure that I have always had at the Astoria.

"The Astoria can now continue to run successfully providing entertainment of the highest quality in the centre of London."

The venue has seen some of the biggest bands of the moment perform there including Blur, U2 and Oasis.

It is also plays host to the popular GAY club night which attracts acts from the pop world such as Kylie Minogue, Liberty X and Geri Halliwell.
