Lawyers walk out on Minnelli
Liza Minnelli
Minnelli is locked in legal battles over a Beverly Hills home
Two lawyers have stopped working for singer Liza Minnelli after their relationship with the star "completely broke down".

Arthur Barens and Robert Kaufman were representing the singer and actress in a legal battle over a home occupied by her stepmother.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge was due to decide whether the pair could stop working for Minnelli.

But the star hired a new lawyer, making the ruling unnecessary.

Mr Barens and Mr Kaufman had been working on the legal case filed by two potential house buyers, Merhdad Saghian and Stephanie Jarin, who said Minnelli backed out of a deal to sell the home to them for $2.75m (1.7m).

Accused

But the home was occupied by Minnelli's stepmother, Lee Minnelli, who sued her stepdaughter for allegedly attempting to force her out.

Lee Minnelli said Liza's father, Vicente, had said before his death in 1986 that she could stay.

In her lawsuit, Lee Minnelli accused her stepdaughter of cutting off the electricity and firing the staff to force her to leave.

Saghian and Jarin say Liza Minnelli has leased a condominium for her stepmother and was making "a bad faith attempt" to void their deal.

The parties in the property wrangle are due back in court on 20 March after failing to settle the case at arbitration last year.
