Wogan has not been on British TV regularly for 10 years

Wogan, who is a presenter on BBC Radio 2, will co-host the show on Five with Gaby Roslin.

Wogan has signed up to 200 hours of the show for a deal reported to be worth six figures.

The show will be launched in the spring but other details are being kept secret.

The Irish broadcaster had a chat show, Wogan, on BBC One for 10 years, but it was axed in 1992 to make way for the doomed soap Eldorado.

Wogan will continue to present his Radio 2 morning show, which finishes at 9.30am.

Gaby Roslin used to work with Chris Evans

He said: "Morning is the Marie Celeste of television - drifting, deserted.

"It'll be fun to see if Gaby and I can bring a breath of fresh air to fill the sails of our bright new craft."

The new chat show is being made by Chris Evans' production company UMTV.

It will reunite Evans with his former Big Breakfast co-star Gaby Roslin for the first time in eight years.

Evans walked out of the Channel 4 show in 1995.

"To work with Terry and Gaby is a producer's dream come true and a make-up artist's nightmare. I'm grateful that I am the former," Evans said.

Roslin said she was "delighted" to work with Evans again and was looking forward to "keeping Mr Wogan in line".

ITV has recently paired veteran entertainer Des O'Connor with presenter and model Melanie Sykes for their show Today with Des and Mel.
