A woman who fled a troubled childhood in Northamptonshire has been named as the Prince's Trust Young Achiever of the Year. Sarah Bennett has been honoured by Prince Charles at the Pride of Britain Awards.
At 24, Ms Bennett is now a song-writer studying vocals at the Academy of Contemporary Music.
She said she now want to help others who have been through similar difficulties
'Sings from the heart'
Ms Bennett, originally from Dufton, Northamptonshire, received her award at the Mirror's Pride of Britain and Northern Ireland Awards 2003, on Monday night.
Singing star Ms Dynamite, at the awards, praised Ms Bennett's ability.
"She sings from the heart and she is so talented. We need that," she said.
Ms Bennett said: "The Prince's Trust helps you leave the past where it is, and gives you the incentives again to persevere and strive forwards.
'Boundless achievements'
"I am no longer 15, but an adult with just as many chances as anyone and for once I have a past with some good memories to look back on." Sir Tom Shebbeare, chief executive of The Prince's Trust said of Sarah: "She is a wonderful example of so many of the young people who have been supported since The Prince's Trust started 27 years ago.
"They have overcome barriers which would defeat people twice their age.
"My admiration for Sarah and all that she has achieved is boundless - she could not be a more worthy winner of this prize."
