Straight in at number one

Aguilera's single Beautiful went straight in at number one, pushing Russian Julia Volkova, 17, and Lena Katina, 18, into third position behind DJ Sammy's hit The Boys of Summer.

Commentators had accused Tatu of promoting "paedophilic pop" in order to secure a chart hit by wearing school uniforms and kissing in their video.

Elsewhere in the Top 40, Fame Academy reject Ainslie Henderson only managed fifth position in the chart with his single Keep Me a Secret.

Other new entries include Melanie C with Here It Comes Again, at number seven, and Special Cases by Massive Attack, at number 15.

Norah Jones has topped the album chart thanks to the huge sales boost that followed her success at the Grammys.

Norah, the daughter of world renowned sitar player Ravi Shankar, had battled with Tom Jones to take the top spot.

Just 600 sales separated them at one point with US star Norah - who won six Grammys - finally pulling ahead.

Welsh chart veteran Tom, winner of the outstanding contribution prize at the Brits, had been ahead with his Greatest Hits album until Friday.

Norah has hovered around the UK top ten for many months with her debut Come Away With Me.

But she had not gone higher than number three, until now.

"The effect of the Grammys has shown through for the first time this year," said chart expert Gennaro Castaldo of music chain HMV.

"Until now, they haven't had a major impact over here and it has only been people in the music industry and media who have noticed the winners.
