The band are disappointed their tour was cancelled |
Boy band One True Voice have been voted Britain's worst group the day after their tour was cancelled due to poor ticket sales.
The act, created by the ITV1 show Popstars: The Rivals, topped the poll of an alternative award ceremony to Thursday's Brit Awards.
Gareth Gates - runner-up in TV's Pop Idol contest - was named worst British male in the Naomi Awards, handed out by TV channel Music Choice.
His chart-topping track Unchained Melody was named the year's worst single.
Victoria Beckham also scored a double by being named worst female and taking the worst album award for her self-titled debut.
Cheeky Girls - another product of Popstars: The Rivals - won worst international group and single for The Cheeky Song.
The Naomis were named after Naomi Campbell, who tried - and failed - to set the charts alight with her pop career in 1994.
"It's about time that music awards stopped taking themselves so seriously," said Music Choice spokesman Simon Bell.
He added that Music Choice had introduced the awards "in a bid to lighten things up".
Soundly beaten
One True Voice were said to be "disappointed and upset" by the news that their nationwide tour had been cancelled.
The group had been due to perform 11 shows alongside their female Popstars counterparts Girls Aloud.
The tour had been scheduled to start in March, taking in major venues including London's Wembley Arena and Birmingham NEC.
One True Voice, who are managed by pop stalwart Pete Waterman, reached number two at Christmas with their single Sacred Trust.
But they were soundly beaten in terms of sales by Girls Aloud, who stayed at number one for four weeks.
