ODB - whose real name is Russell Jones - and another man were seen driving a sports car in Brooklyn on Friday with one or both of its headlights out, according to the New York Police Department.

Detective Joseph Pentangelo said an unmarked patrol car stopped the vehicle, the two men got out of the car and began firing at the officers. The police returned fire, but no injuries were reported.

Jones, 29, was arrested at the scene while the second man - who has not been named - was arrested after a chase. He was released after questioning and is not a suspect, according to police.

Jones has been charged with the attempted murder of police officers.

Fourth arrest in six months

It is his fourth arrest since July. In November, he was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill an ex-girlfriend.

He also allegedly threatened to kill security guards at a Hollywood club in September. In July, he was arrested on a shoplifting charge in Virginia.

At 1998's Grammy ceremony, Jones - whose ODB moniker stands for Ol' Dirty Bastard - jumped on stage uninvited after failing to win in the best album category.

He grabbed a microphone, and complained he had spent a lot of money on new clothes because he thought he was going to win.

The Wu-Tang Clan have become one of the New York hip-hop scene's biggest successes, and their last album Wu-Tang Forever received critical acclaim.
